BERHAMPUR: The commandoes of the Special Operation Group (SOG) had an exchange of fire with a group of naxals from Andhra Pradesh inside the jungle on the foothill of Mahendragiri hill on Friday night. The SOG commandoes were combing this area near Kainpur and Kinchling under Garabandha police station when they came across this naxal group. Due to the slight drizzle the SOG group had taken shelter at place and the naxal group which may be moving in the area had also taken shelter nearby. The naxal group took advantage of darkness to escape from the spot. Despite exchange of fire no news of injury or death has been reported. Yet the police have started keeping watch on the private nursing homes in Gajapati district. Speaking over phone, Gajapati Superintendent of Police Satyabrata Bhoi said it was a group of hardcore naxals most probably from Andhra Pradesh. They did not prefer to retreat early and were using extreme handy Very Light Pistols (VLP). The area where the exchange of fire occurred was located at a distance of around 2 km inside jungle from the nearest human habitat.
