TRS activists upbeat in Adilabad

Entry of TDP leaders into party rejuvenates cadre

Senior TDP leader Purnam Satish and his followers join TRS

Some more leaders like Suhasini Reddy and others may follow

ADILABAD: The strategy of Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) to declare party candidates much ahead of the next Assembly elections is apparently paying dividends in Adilabad district. Leaders who found themselves cramped for space, especially in the ‘top heavy’ district unit of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) have begun defecting to the Telangana protagonist party at this early juncture apparently to ensure a party ticket .

Among the early birds is Puranam Satish, a senior TDP leader from Chennur constituency and about a 1,000 of his followers who joined TRS on Thursday.

In the next few days, Ch. Suhasini Reddy, a former Adilabad Zilla Parishad chairperson and secretary of Telugu Mahila is also likely to join the party according to sources.

Some of the more active leaders in the TDP district level organisation feel their chances of bagging a party ticket will suffer because of the prevalent groupism. “Sincere workers will stand no chance in the rat race created due to groupism,” observed a leader.

In contrast, the TRS offers a better opportunity for aspirants to bag a party ticket. Hardly any competition for party tickets from a majority of the constituencies is expected within TRS. The party too is in need of leaders of sufficient stature after faring below expectations in the last Zilla Parishad and Mandal Parishad elections and plagued by dissident activity among the elected representatives, the TRS activities are rather low key in the district.

Two of the three TRS MLAs in the district, Soyam Bapu Rao from Boath and Narayan Rao Patel from Mudhole no more owe loyalty to TRS president K. Chandrashekhara Rao. Only Adilabad MP T. Madhusudan Reddy is the personality behind whom the TRS cadres rally at present. It is learnt that the MP is instrumental in securing the new admissions to his party.

The new entries in TRS therefore have injected some buoyancy among the rank and file of the party in Adilabad. The party is also hoping to rope in more leaders in the coming months.
