New Delhi
All the local bodies have been asked to take action within a week NEW DELHI: Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party president Harsh Vardhan has directed his party workers to provide 33 per cent reservation to women in local committees, “mandals” and districts of all the units and inform the party headquarters within a week. According to Dr. Vardhan, Delhi is the first State in the country where the decision of the party’s National Council to provide 33 per cent reservation in the BJP units has been implemented. The direction was given by him at the monthly meeting of the party at its headquarters here on Saturday. Former Delhi Chief Minister Sushma Swaraj said the BJP strongly favours 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and State Assemblies. “Due to the lax policies of non-BJP parties, this decision has not been implemented in the country. The BJP has fought inside and outside Parliament and this fight will continue till the demand for reservation for women is fulfilled,” she added. A resolution passed unanimously at the meeting termed the Sheila Dikshit Government “anti-women” and corrupt. It called upon the people of Delhi to defeat the Congress in the Assembly elections due later this year just as they did in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections. The resolution criticised the Delhi Government and the Union Government for failing to provide power and water to the residents of the city. “The State Government is bent upon making Delhi a wine capital. The price spiral is not being curbed and gas cylinders are not being supplied,” said the resolution.
