Thiruvananthapuram: Devaswom Minister K. Sudhakaran has recommended a Vigilance probe into the appointment of sub-priests in the allied temples of Sabarimala. The recommendation was made to the Home Department based on a report by Devasom Board Vigilance Officer who conducted a preliminary inquiry into the allegation that there had been corruption behind posting of a large number of sub-priests in small temples attached to Sabarimala during the pilgrimage season, sources said. Two sub-priests of Sabarimala had earlier given a complaint to the Devaswom Vigilance to this effect. The Devaswom SP had given the report to TDB president C.K. Guptan who referred it to the Devaswom Minister. According to preliminary reports, about 2,000 temporary appointments in various categories, including sub-priests, were made during the pilgrimage season. Sources said the report had references about Devaswom Board members P. Narayanan and Sumathikutty Amma. However, it was not clear whether they would also be brought under the purview of the proposed inquiry. Meanwhile, RSP State secretary V.P. Ramakrishna Pillai said his party would raise the issue at the LDF State committee. — PTI
