Convene all-party meet on Cauvery, says JD(U)

Special Correspondent

Bangalore: Janata Dal (United) President B. Somashekhar has urged Governor Rameshwar Thakur to convene an all-party meeting to decide the stand Karnataka has to take before the Supreme Court on the Cauvery water issue. In a memorandum submitted to the Governor, Mr. Somashekhar said that this was required because of the Tamil Nadu Government’s recent petition to the Supreme Court to restrain Karnataka from executing as many as six lift irrigation projects and other schemes in the Cauvery basin. Mr. Somashekhar has said that justice had been denied to the people of Karnataka even in the final award of the tribunal in 2007.

He added that the petition holds the potential to do further harm to Karnataka’s interest.
