Seats in technical colleges to be raised : Hooda

Special Correspondent

CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said on Saturday that the number of seats in technical and engineering institutes in the State would be increased to one lakh in the next two years.

Addressing the Sir Chhotu Ram Jayanti Samaroh organised by Jat Shiksha Samiti in Rohtak, Mr. Hooda said the number of seats in technical and engineering institutes had already been increased from 23,000 to 53,000 during the past three years.

Striking a political note, Mr. Hooda launched a scathing attack on those who had earlier tried to relegate the memory of the legendary Deenbandhu Sir Chhotu Ram to the background to highlight the name of their own father. In an obvious reference to Indian National Lok Dal leader Om Parkash Chautala and his kin, he said that those politicians could never be the well-wishers of Haryana who had, when they were in power, tried to highlight the name of their father (obviously referring to the late Deputy Prime Minister Devi Lal) by virtually “not giving much significance to Sir Chhotu Ram who had always struggled to ensure justice to the weak, the downtrodden, the farmers and labourers”.

Quality education

Mr. Hooda asserted that his regime had given priority to imparting quality education through the best facilities. He said that it would be unjustifiable if the legendary leader was linked to any particular caste or section of society: “In fact, he worked to mitigate the sufferings of all and sundry.”
