TDP, Congress activists clash

JAGGAIAHPET (Krishna dist.): Tension prevailed at Sivapuram village of Penuganchiprolu mandal near here on Saturday, when two groups pelted stones at each other over the alleged tearing down of a banner displayed by TDP activists to welcome TDP Polit Bureau member Nandamuri Harikrishna.

A police party was deployed and Section 144 was clamped in the village to bring the situation under control.

TDP activists, on Friday night, displayed four banners welcoming Mr. Harikrishna Trouble broke out when one of the banners was found torn on Saturday morning. The TDP activists accused the Congress of damaging the banner, which led to a heated argument between the two groups.

The situation worsened by the evening, as the two groups began pelting stones at each other until the police intervened.

However, no police complaint had been lodged.
