VIJAYAWADA: The three-day Gunadala Matha festival began with religious fervour on Saturday. Festive environment prevailed on the sprawling playground of Bishop Grassi High School, with hundreds of pilgrims from far away places reaching there to celebrate the festival. Vicar general of Vijayawada diocese M. Chinnappa and parish priest of Gunadala shrine P. Balaswamy declared the festival open by performing a holy mass at the school ground. Chancellor of the diocese John, correspondent of the school Vempany were also present. Healing prayers were arranged for the sick.
