Tellicherry scores win

Tellicherry CC beat Sir Syed College by six wickets in the Kannur District ‘A’ division cricket league at Thalassery on Friday.

The scores: Sir Syed 70 in 22 overs (Rafneed four for 19) lost to Tellicherry 73 for four in 15.1 overs.

Muthoot Group wins

Muthoot Group, Kochi, defeated KSEB, Thiruvananthapuram, 25-27, 25-23, 25-20, 25-19 and won the all-Kerala volleyball tournament, organised by the Shivaji Youth Arts and Sports Club at Pothencode, near Thiruvananthapuram, on Friday night.

SBT is champion

State Bank of Travancore won the 32nd State inter-club football championship at a packed Public Stadium in Thiruvalla on Saturday.

SBT defeated Titanium 2-0 in an all-Thiruvananthapura final which proved that the recent additions have made it a strong combination.

“We’re now ready for the National League,” the SBT captain Asif Saheer said minutes after the triumph.

The team will be playing the second division NFL later this year.

As a contest, the match was a big flop.

Complete dominance

Such was SBT’s dominance that Titanium was a mere chaser for a good part of the encounter.

And with Shabeer given the marching orders in the 80th minute for elbowing SBT’s Martin John, a strong one on the nose which sent the bank player to the hospital, Titanium was in further trouble.

The good work by midfielders, especially K.M. Abdul Noushad and C.J. Rinil, meant that the forwards were well fed.

Promising crosses

Nigerian Dennis Afam Emeka also served some promising crosses from the left, while his compatriot Alex Okoro Emeka appeared good at the back.

Faced with such a strong rival, Cleetus, the Titanium midfielder who had impressed in the last couple of matches, appeared lost while the talented forward Renjith Kunimmel was marked well.

Opening goal

D. Sajin gave SBT the lead in the 20th minute in a goalmouth melee and a little later, Abdul Noushad came close to increasing the tally one that banged the crosspiece.

SBT appeared strong with setpieces and its next goal came through a smart corner kick which ended with an alert Nigerian Dennis Mark soaring above the others to head home a beauty.

The result:

Final: SBT 2 (D. Sajin 28, Dennis Afam Mark 70) bt Titanium 0.

Easy for St. Joseph’s

In the day’s other matches, Quarts defeated Soyuz 2-0, while MCC beat Kallai Youth 3-0.
