Madurai: Defending champion Goa registered a 3-0 win over Maharashtra in a rain-affected match in group ‘B’ quarterfinal league in the 17th youth (under-21) National football championship here on Saturday. Heavy downpour started along with the match and both the teams adopted well to the situation. Goa took the lead in the 21st minute. Lavio Fernandes, receiving a pass from Gabriel Fernandes, sent in a powerful shot from near the goal. The ball hit the crosspiece and Maharashtra goalkeeper Nesarullah Khan made a mess of the rebound.With the ground being flooded, referee Noba Kumar Doss stopped play in the 31st minute. The game started after mopping-up opertions. Goa increased the lead in the the 60th minute through Gabriel. Adilkhan completed the tally in the 87th minute with 30-yards powerful shot. The only consolation for Maharastra was that Keegan Pereira was named the Man of the match. — Sports Correspondent
