DEHRA DUN: Rajesh Jwantha, Congress MLA from Purola in Uttarkashi district, surrendered in the Munsif Court there to undergo the six months’ imprisonment sentence handed down to him by a local court for having torn ballot papers and obstructed election work during the panchayat polls in 2003. Bharatiya Janata Party leader Amichand Shah also surrendered to the court to undergo a similar imprisonment. Both of them had been sentenced to six months’ imprisonment by the lower court and the Supreme Court recently had upheld the judgment. A large number of senior Congress leaders addressed a rally at Purola assuring people of all efforts to work for development of the constituency while Mr. Jwantha is in prison.
