Community policing will include surveillance system to monitor flats and apartments when residents are out of station

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The city police will conduct an awareness drive in schools to deter students below the age of 18 from riding motorcycles, City Police Commissioner, Ravada Azad Chandrasekhar has said.

He was interacting with the representatives of various residents’ associations in the city on Saturday.

Diverse issues

The two-hour-long session saw the representatives raising issues such as lack of parking facilities, disruption of electricity, absence of streetlights, water shortage, digging of roads and encroachments on footpath.

The city Police Commissioner told the residents that the police would acquire a surveillance system that would enable them to monitor flats and apartments when the residents were out of station. The technology could be incorporated as a part of community policing.

Surveillance at MCH

Maithri Suraksha convenor Thekkumoodu Sumesh urged the Commissioner to install a surveillance system inside the casualty of the medical college hospital in order to ensure its smooth functioning.

Traffic signal

“For the last five months we have been requesting the traffic police to advance the functioning of the traffic signal at Pattom Junction to 7.30 a.m. owing to the heavy rush of traffic during the morning hours. But we are yet to receive a favourable response,” he said.

Traffic awareness

Representatives of the Federation of Residents Association Trivandrum urged the police to resume the practice of creating awareness on traffic rules through announcements at traffic junctions in various parts of the city.

Members of the Palayam Residents Association wanted the police to run a visual campaign on chain snatching through the media that will encourage women to minimise the use of gold ornaments.

The meeting was attended by the representatives of over 20 residents’ association in the city.
