CPI to fight against neglect of capital

CPI district conference begins on February 14

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The five-day district conference of the CPI that begins here on February 14 will chalk out agitation programmes against the neglect towards the State capital and Kerala by the Union government.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, CPI district secretary P. Ramachandran Nair said the meeting would decide on an agitation to restore the High Court Bench in the capital and to expedite the completion of the international container transhipment terminal at Vizhinjam among other things. The CPI leader said development of the railway in the capital and other developmental needs of the city would come up for discussion at the district conference.

A cultural meeting, cultural programmes, delegates’ session, march by red volunteers and a public meeting has been organised as part of the meeting. The cultural meeting will be inaugurated by Minister for Food and Civil Supplies C. Divakaran at Gandhi Park on February 14. The flag to be hoisted at the meeting will be taken out as a procession, led by CPI district secretary Venjaramood Sasi, from Edava. Mr. Nair will receive the flag at Putharikandam Maidan on February 15. Over 50,000 people would participate in the rally to be taken out from the Museum junction to Putharikandam Maidan on February 16, Mr. Nair said. Red volunteers will also take part in the rally. Later, CPI State secretary Veliyam Bhargavan will inaugurate the public meeting. The delegate’s session will be held at the Karthika Tirunal theatre on February 17 and 18. Over 400 delegates elected from 14 Assembly constituencies in the district will attend. CPI central committee member C.K. Chandrappan will inaugurate the session.

CPI district assistant secretary G.R. Anil and organising committee general secretary Kuttiyanicaud Madhu attended the press conference.
