TIRUPUR: Highways Secretary K. Allaudin on Saturday said that the ongoing road improvement works in Tirupur to make full use of the ring road will be over by June.

He inspected the progress of various works, including construction of bridges, under the Rs.70-crore special allocation by the Tamil Nadu Government.

Mr. Allaudin said they had planned to complete the road widening works by March. Owing to the delay in shifting of electric poles and other structures, they have to reschedule the plan. All major roads, including Avanashi Road, Palladam Road, Dharapuram Road, Kangeyam Road and Uthukuli Road in Tirupur were being widened, some of them would be made four-lane.

He said shifting of hundreds of lamp posts and other structures would be over by the end of this month. Once it was done widening of roads would be completed in next two to three months.

On construction of six more bridges, Mr. Allaudin said work orders would be issued for construction of three bridges by this month-end as tender process was over. For another three bridges the steps were on to give contracts. Since these bridges are big ones, each costs over Rs.1 crore, the work is expected to be over by 9 to 12 months.

Ongoing work to widen Avanashi Road in Coimbatore into a six-lane would be over by end of April, Mr. Allaudin said. Torrential rain and shifting of electric poles have caused delay to complete the work as per schedule.
