NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit launched another round of pulse polio campaign in the Capital on Saturday by administering anti-polio drops to children at her official Motilal Nehru Place residence. With this, Delhi is all set for the polio immunisation programme this Sunday. Ms. Dikshit said her government is committed to making Delhi polio-free. “It would be ensured that none is affected by polio virus in the city. For making a strong nation, we must have strong children that would only be possible with the success of polio programme,” she added. Asserting that Delhi had shown better results in the pulse polio programme compared with other States, Ms. Dikshit said the city was regarded as a role model and it would continue to strive hard to completely eliminate polio. This year only two cases have been reported. Five hundred and ninety-two cases have been reported this year in the country against 676 this past year, said the Chief Minister, adding that Delhi initiated the pulse polio immunisation programme in 1994 and launched house-to-house “search and immunisation” in 1999. Complimenting officials of the Health Department for their efforts in overcoming the threat of polio in Delhi, Ms. Dikshit said the city had always been a pioneer in the pulse polio immunisation programme.
