Lightning kills two

VILLUPURAM: Two persons were struck dead by lightning at different places in Villupuram district on Saturday.

Though the district did not receive heavy rainfall, the sky was overcast and there was thunder and lightning during the day. The police said when E. Prabhu alias Srinivasan (23) was returning from Neelampoondi to Vanakkampadi, he took shelter from rain underneath a tree.

Lightning struck the tree killing him on the spot.

In another incident at Sundaravallipalayam in Sankarapuram taluk, M. Marimuthu (42) was struck dead by lightning.

Four goats were also killed by lightning at Annamangalam in Ginjee taluk.
