‘A shot in the arm for BJP’
Special Correspondent
BANGALORE: BJP general secretary H.N. Ananth Kumar said on Saturday that the Centre had taken steps to hold Assembly elections by May 28 and pointed out that the “countdown” for the Congress had begun in the State and at the Centre.
He was speaking at a function organised to welcome Janata Dal (U) leader Basavaraj Bommai and his followers into the BJP.
Mr. Kumar said the BJP and the erstwhile Janata Party factions and later with JD(U) ensured the defeat of the Congress in the State whenever they went before people together with electoral understanding. BJP State unit president D.V. Sadananda Gowda said the party’s strength had doubled in north Karnataka with Mr. Bommai joining the party.
Many leaders, including K.S. Eshwarappa, Katta Subramanya Naidu, Jagadish Shettar, R. Ashok and D.H. Shankaramurthy were present.
