HAMPI: The two-day 444th “aradhane” of Sri Purandara Dasa, the great poet saint popularly known as “Carnatic Sangeeta pitamaha” concluded at Hampi on Friday evening. Hi. Chi. Boralingaiah, acting Vice-Chancellor of Hampi Kannada University, who presided over the valedictory function, paid rich tributes to the Dasa cult for propagating “tyaga” (sacrifice) while living in the great capital of Vijayanagar empire which was at the peak of its glory. “Along with ‘bhoga,’ ‘tyaga’ is also equally important and this aspect was propagated by Purandara Das, through his compositions,” he said. BhajansHe appealed to the authorities to organise rendering of “bhajans” by inviting various troupes from different parts of the State in addition to the rendition of music by renowned artistes during the celebration of “aradhane.” “The celebrations will be more meaningful if bhajan singing troupes are also invited to participate in the programme,” he felt. K.S.L. Swamy, MLC, complimented the government and the district administration for organising the celebrations on a grand scale. Durga Avanti, Joint Director of Kannada and Culture, welcomed the gathering. Chornur Kotrappa, Assistant Director of the department, proposed a vote of thanks. Later, “Ddasa keerthane” was rendered by several prominent artistes, including Vijaya Kishore, Fakiresh Kanavi and ballet by several dance troupes.
