72 lakh children immunised in second phase

HEALTH CARE: Oral polio vaccine being administered to a child on Sunday in Chennai as part of the second phase of pulse polio campaign.

CHENNAI: The second phase of pulse polio campaign in the State was carried out on Sunday, covering about 72 lakh children who were below the age of five years.

Nearly 40,400 immunisation booths were located in government hospitals, primary health centres, health sub-centres, noon meal centres, schools and in other important places.

Transit boots set up

Transit booths were also set up. About two lakh personnel including volunteers from non-governmental organisations such as the Rotary movement were involved.

According to an official release, the earlier phase was conducted on January 6. The Public Health Department had made elaborate arrangements.
