Uddhav: sons of soil cannot be denied jobs

Special Correspondent

MUMBAI: Fearing that cousin Raj Thackeray would hijack his party’s agenda by taking an anti-north Indian stand on the question of the rights of the local Marathi “manoos” (men), Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray warned on Saturday night that he would not tolerate any attempt to deny jobs to the “sons of soil.”

Uddhav Thackeray said the Marathis would have first claim over new jobs generated in the aviation sector here. He warned that if the developer of the Mumbai International Airport Limited, Sanjeev Reddy (GVK Group), brought in workers from other States and sacked the locals, his party would not allow even a single aircraft to take off. He was addressing a rally of the airport workers union.
