STAR ATTRACTION: Actor Kamal Hassan felicitating members of the Kamal Hassan Narpani Iyakkam in Chennai on Sunday. CHENNAI: What’s a birthday without a cake and a party? But every year, actor Kamal Hassan’s fans celebrate his birthday, which falls on November 7, differently. Over 5,000 members, including 35 women and several physically disabled persons, donated blood in November 2007 to celebrate his birthday. On Sunday morning, the actor honoured 35 women and eight disabled persons by presenting them with bouquets in appreciation of their efforts. Meeting their heroThe function, held at the Savithri Amma Oriental School inside Sanskrit College in Mylapore, also saw Mr. Hassan posing for pictures and shaking hands with the 5,000-strong crowd that had gathered at the venue. Disabled persons, including Mahesh of Gobichettipalayam (30), born without his left hand, and donated blood 19 times; Harikrishnan (34) of Puducherry, who has donated blood 8 times, and Sriramadesikan of Tanjore, who has donated blood 11 times, were felicitated. About 5,000 persons from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Puducherry had donated blood at Government Hospitals in November 2007, which had been christened “Life Saving month” by the Kamal Hassan Narpani Iyakkam.
