Senior CPI (M) leader walks out of party meet
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD: Senior CPI (M) leader and State committee member G. Ramachandra Rao created a mild flutter when he walked out of the party’s 22nd State Congress in protest against the “dictatorial tendencies” adopted by a section of leaders.
Mr. Rao, joint secretary of CPI (M)-affiliated Rythu Sangham and former general secretary of the toddy tappers’ wing, alleged that the party was not flexible to change its policies in tune with the changing social, economic and regional issues.
“How can we convince the grass root level workers and ensure their continuation in the party if we don’t consider the emerging realities?” he asked.
The party was, of late, not taking into consideration divergent views expressed from within and debate on crucial issues was not being allowed. CPI (M) State secretary B.V. Raghavulu, however, dismissed the charge saying Mr. Ramachandra Rao was frustrated as he was not elected to the State committee.
“If there is so much going on within the party, why was he silent for the past three years?” he asked.
The party leaders also showed a letter written by Mr. Rao a couple of days ago asking the leadership to relieve him of his post owing to health reasons.
