Programme to highlight problems faced by employees of municipalities and corporations
|
Sangareddy: The Andhra Pradesh Municipal Workers and Employees Union Medak committee general secretary A. Manikyam in a press release on Sunday stated that the union would take up a state-wide week-long protest programme to highlight the problems faced by workers of municipalities and corporations.
The union had been demanding payment arrears, timely salaries, payment for strike period as per the agreement with the government and protection of the interests of contract workers.
The union alleged that in all the five municipalities in the district payment of contributory insurance was not being done and the money was swindled by corrupt employees in Sangareddy Municipality. As a result retired employees were not able to receive retirement benefits. The union would observe February 14 as ‘demands day’ by holding dharnas at all the municipal offices, roundtable discussions on February 16, hunger strikes at Hyderabad under the aegis of the State committee and ‘Chalo DMO’ on February 18.
