DHAKA: Bangladesh has hoped that the sudden ban by New Delhi on export of rice by the private sector will have no bearing on the government’s procurement of five lakh tonnes rice from the neighbour to meet the prevailing emergency. AAMM Shawkat Ali, Food Adviser of the caretaker government, told journalists here on Sunday that the reported Indian decision would have an adverse impact on the rice market. Mr. Ali, however, said Dhaka would request New Delhi for a special consideration on those letters of credit which were opened before the ban came into force. The Bangladesh Foreign Office, it is learnt, has already communicated this to New Delhi.
