Striking a pose: Kaori Nakka of Japan performing Odissi on the occasion of the Guru Debaprasad Smruti Samman held in Berhampur. — BERHAMPUR: Devaprasad Kalatirtha organised an evening of Odissi dance and music at the Ganjam Kala Parishad auditorium on Sunday evening to celebrate its eleventh annual function. In memory of guru Devaprasad, the organisation also honoured four personalities of the State who are involved in the uplift of Odissi dance and music. The chief guest of the function, Union Minister of State for Rural Development, Chandrasekhar Sahu honoured these personalities. They were guru Ramahari Dash for Odissi music, Bijalaxmi Mohanty for Odissi dance, Krushna Charan Patnaik for Lokanatya and Ranjit Kumar Samaddar for literature of art and culture. Vice president of the Vedanta, S.K.Tamotia was also present as a guest. ‘Pancha Deva Stutee’ an Odissi ballet performed by the students of Devaprasad Kalatirtha marked the beginning of this evening of classical dance and music. Odissi classical vocal recital by Guru Ramahari followed it. The stage changed its hue from serene Odissi vocal compositions to fast rhythms of Shiva tandava in Odissi form. It was performed by Japanese Odissi dancer, Kaori Naka, a student of guru Ganjendra Panda. Bhramari Dutta of Kolkata performed ‘abhinaya’ to the lyrics of Gopalkrushna. Students of Kalavikash Kendra of Chatrapur also drew the attention.
