NEW DELHI: The hunt for the country’s next “super kid” came to an interesting end at the British Council here over the weekend when 14-year-old Neha Jain from Kolkata was declared the winner of the second Nat Geo Junior by cricketer Rahul Dravid. National Geographic Channel’s quest for the best saw the participation of 4 lakh children from over 400 schools across the country. Dravid’s viewsSpeaking on the occasion, Rahul Dravid said he got a chance to interact with children and understand their perspective towards life. “It was really special talking to these kids. Through the ‘Nat Geo Junior Hunt 2’ children got an opportunity to take part in scientifically-designed rounds including aptitude test, games, puzzles, debates, thinking out-of-the-box challenges and outdoor adventure camp. Besides mental activities children should also devote some time to games and extra-curricular activities. I am pleased to know that these days quite a few schools are emphasising on not just academics but also trying to make their students into all-rounders.” ‘Excellent opportunity’The former Indian skipper said as a school student he never got a chance to take part in such outdoor activities. “Those days we did not have such entertaining shows. These shows give children an excellent opportunity to explore their mental horizon and talent. As they come from different States they get to know each other extremely well.” About the finalistsInforming that she lives in a joint family in the City of Joy, Neha -- who will host the show for three months -- said she came from a caring and supporting family that had always encouraged her to take up any challenges that comes her way. The other three finalists who missed the title were Mumbai’s Jemin Shah, Bangalore’s Balaji S. and Mumbai’s Aanchal Samtani.
