BHUBANESWAR: Irate villagers set four trucks ablaze following death of a 30-year-old youth in an accident near Nuapada on National Highway 215, about 10 kilometres from Jajpur Road. The victim was identified as Asish Kumar Bania of Nuapada village in Jajpur district. Bania was riding a motorcycle when the truck hit him on Sunday evening. As soon as the news of his death spread, villagers blocked the national highway and started setting trucks on fire. Tension continued on the busy national highway till police team arrived on the scene to disperse agitators. Villagers were demanding immediate payment of compensation to the next kith and kins of Bania. Meanwhile, Jajpur police had arrested 10 persons in connection with the violence and identified 20 villagers for rioting. One platoon of police was deployed at Dhanapur to prevent further escalation of the situation. Reports said iron-ore laden trucks from Keonjhar districts were moving as usual after intervention of the police.
