First of weekly adalats will be held on February 13 Malappuram office achieves record delivery period MALAPPURAM: Passport Officer K. Muraleedharan will hold adalats in his office on all Wednesdays as part of the latest drive to finish off the pending cases. Mr. Muraleedharan will meet the complainants between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. on all Wednesdays except holidays. Applicants of fresh or renewal passports requiring police verification can meet the Passport Officer in his chamber if their passports are pending for more than 45 days. Similarly, renewal applicants who do not require police verification can meet the Passport Officer if their passports are pending for more than 20 days. Applicants of duplicate passports who need either police verification or confirmation from Indian missions can also meet the Passport Officer at the adalat if their passports are pending for more than 90 days. Mr. Muraleedharan told The Hindu that the first of his weekly adalats would be held on February 13. Applicants can personally meet the Passport Officer with a request letter showing their file reference number, name, father’s name, address and a brief background of the pending case. However, the requests should be boldly marked ‘Passport Adalat 2008’ with date. Mr. Muraleedharan said a maximum of 30 applicants would be handled at the adalat in a week. Their cases would be considered on a first-come, first-served basis.
