Country’s first ‘handicraft mall’ to open in Delhi JAIPUR: Rajasthan is likely to make a special presence in the first “handicraft mall” of the country slated to open shortly in New Delhi. The new mall will house handicraft products from various States and make way for their trade under a single roof. The Development commissioner (Handicrafts) of the Union Textile Ministry, Sanjay Agarwal, said while inaugurating the “Rajasthan Saree Exhibition” in New Delhi over the week-end that the first-of-its-kind mall would be construed at over two acres of land in Vasant Kunj in the National Capital. Mr. Agrawal said Rajasthan was a leading State in the handicraft sector and had made significant achievements in the spheres of textiles, block printing, stone industry, furniture, carpets, etc. Efforts were being made to establish a crafts institute in Jaipur, he added. The Saree exhibition, scheduled to continue till February 19 at Rajasthali Emporium, has displayed world famous Sarees from the desert State in the designs such as Kota Doria, Bandhej, Bandhani, Laharia, Sanganeri, Bagru, Barmeri, Akola, block print, Zari and Mothda.
