Court adjourns case on Bidar Fort land
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Monday adjourned by two weeks a case relating to the grant of land around the famed Bidar fort to some beneficiaries by the Land Grant Tribunal of Bidar.
The court was dealing with petitions by the State Government and Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) against an order of the tribunal granting land to some of the beneficiaries.
While the State is challenging the grant of land as mala fide and illegal, the Archaeological Survey of India is contending that no part of the land around the fort can be granted as it is all protected area.
The ASI, which is in charge of the maintenance and upkeep of the fort, says that the fort land could not have been granted under any circumstances.
The State, too, has assailed the tribunal order, saying that that even though the Assistant Commissioner, who is part of the tribunal, had objected to the grant, the other members had gone ahead with the grant.
