JAIPUR: One person was crushed to death and four were injured in a stampede during a recruitment drive for the Central Industrial Security Force on its campus at Kunda village in Amber, near here, on Monday. A massive turnout of candidates beyond expectation reportedly led to the stampede. Police sources here said nearly 80,000 aspiring youths had gathered at the CISF base ground for recruitment to the specialised posts of barbers and washermen. The stampede took place when confusion arose over some matter just as the test was to start and the applicants scrambled towards the sole entry point. The candidates appearing for the test had come from as far as Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana. The injured were rushed to Sawai Man Singh Hospital, where a young man succumbed to his injuries. He was identified as Ramji Lal. According to eyewitness accounts, there were inadequate facilities for candidates on the ground and practically no arrangement for controlling such a large crowd. The recruitment process was called off after the incident.
