This Day That Age
The problems of the cement industry dominated the meeting of the Standing Committee of the Central Advisory Council of Industries which was held in New Delhi on February 10 under the chairmanship of Mr. Morarji Desai, Minister for Commerce and Industry. Representatives of the industry posed the question whether the expansion of units should not be slowed down in view of the fact that the demand for cement had recently shown signs of diminution. The industry pointed out that it had no advance orders now, but at the same time there was no accumulation of stocks either. It was therefore felt that the demand for cement would pick up when work on projects began to proceed apace again.
