Lone woman robbed of 50 sovereigns
Staff Reporter
CHENNAI: A lone woman in an apartment in Injambakkam was robbed of 50 sovereigns of gold jewellery on Sunday evening by a person posing as a water can supplier.
The 40-year-old man knocked on the door of Shanta, a resident of Hanuman Colony, Selvi Nagar, at 5 p.m. After gaining entry, he forcibly took away Shanta’s gold chain weighing about six sovereigns. Then, he threatened her to part with other valuables.
Sensing danger to her life, she gave her jewellery weighing around 45 sovereigns, which included a few chains and bangles.
The Neelankarai police have registered a case of robbery.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Adyar) S.N.Seshasai said preliminary inquiries suggested that the robber had showed a photograph of Shanta’s husband and threatened to murder him, if she refused to give the valuables.
A few people had seen the robber walk away from the house.
There are some clues and special teams are on the lookout for the accused, the Deputy Commissioner said.
