Divyodaya Inter Religious Centre celebrated World Peace Day with an interschool competition and an inter-religious prayer. About 190 students from 20 schools sang bhajans and songs that evoked nationalist fervour. Amrita Vidyalayam, Carmel Garden Matriculation Higher Secondary School and G.D.Matriculation Higher Secondary School won the first, second and third prizes in Group A (Classes V, VI, VII and VIII). Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, G.D.Matriculation Higher Secondary School and Amrita Vidyalayam won the first, second and third prizes in Group B category (Classes IX, X, XI and XII). All participants were given participation certificates. WinnersMohit Jain of Class XII and M.Ppranov of Class X of Lisieux Matriculation Higher Secondary School won the first place in English Essay Writing in the State level at Arts and Literary Competitions organised by the The Government of Tamil Nadu at Thanjavur. A team led by Denisraj and Baranidharan and A.R.Gowtham of Class X won the second place in Quiz. Students also participated in group dance, and painting. PrizesThe students of Ruby Matriculation School, P.Jeevanathan of Class IV and D.Sathya of Class VII, bagged the first prize and third prize in the Yoga competition conducted by the Tamil Nadu State Yoga Association. Prizes were distributed to the winners. Competitions heldThe Residents’ Awareness Association of Coimbatore organised inter-school competitions here on Saturday as part of its World Environment Day celebrations. Over 550 students from 50 schools studying in classes VI to XII participated in the competitions, conducted by the association jointly with the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board. Painting, essay writing, slogan writing and quiz contests were held on environment-related topics. The winners would receive the prizes on June 28, which was observed as Alagana Kovai Day by the association. The competitions helped the students think more about environmental problems and also create awareness on these issues at home and their school, a release from the association said.
