THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Thiruvananthapuram international airport has pipped six other airports, including Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata and Hyderabad, to achieve the top slot in a survey carried out for the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to find out the quality of services extended to passengers in the airports. Thiruvananthapuram airport achieved a 98 per cent in overall performance in round I of the survey carried out between April and June last year and 94 per cent during round II held during the July-December period. The survey was done by Unik Solutions among passengers in various airports. The results show that the airport has overtaken those in Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Goa, Guwahati and Amritsar. “It is a big achievement,” says Airport Director, N. Nagarj. Attitude of AAI personnel, cleanliness of the airport, seating arrangements, general comfort, airconditioning, availability of drinking water and trolleys and cleanliness of toilets were the parameters covered in the survey. Airport’s scoresThe survey findings show that the attitude of AAI personnel fetched 99 and 98 per cent in round I and round II respectively. In the case of general cleanliness of airport, it was 97 and 92 per cent. The score was 99 per cent in round I and 95 per cent in round II in the case of seating arrangements. Quality of trolleys available to the passengers got 98 per cent in round I and 92 in round II, while their availability fetched the airport 99 per cent in round I and 97 per cent in round II. Cleanliness of toilets was given 92 per cent and 91 per cent in round I and round II. Record passengersThe international airport has also registered an all-time high passenger movement of 2,01,405 during last December. The passenger traffic was 15 per cent more than the corresponding period in 2006. In December 2006, the passenger movement through the airport was 1,68,322.
