NEW DELHI: The minimum temperature in the Capital fell six notches below normal to settle at 3.8 degrees Celsius on Monday. Even as the city experienced sunshine during the day, the chill in the air was unmistakable, forcing the weatherman to declare “cold wave” conditions again. The maximum temperature was pegged at 21 degrees Celsius, two degrees below normal. While the minimum temperature on Sunday was 5.5 degrees, the maximum was 19.8 degrees. For the next 24 hours, the weatherman has forecast a mainly clear sky with cold wave conditions likely to continue. The minimum temperature is expected to be around 3 degrees. Sameer Mehta, an engineer with a private company, said: “Though the sun was out during the day on Monday, the cold winds sweeping the Capital played spoilsport.” The Meteorological Department has attributed the prevailing chill to the cold winds blowing from the hilly regions of the North India, including Jammu and Kashmir that experienced snowfall recently.
