Kochi: The Kerala High Court was on Monday informed by the Ernakulam District Collector that HMT which sold 70 acres of its land to a Mumbai-based company, was only interested in financial benefit and not keen on expanding its industry. This was stated in a counter-affidavit filed by District Collector A.P. M Mohammed Hanish in a civil revision petition filed by HMT against the 2002 order of the Taluk Land Board declaring 251.40 hectares of land in the custody of the company as excess land. The affidavit pointed that on October 17, 2006, the company had alienated about 70 acres of land to Blue Star Realtors Ltd (BSRL). This showed that the petitioner company was not in need of any land and “all excess land needs to be taken as surplus land,” the affidavit submitted. The company had later handed over the land to HDIL for setting up the Rs.4,000-crore Cyber City project, the affidavit said.
