One crore each earmarked for councillors

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Tilted heavily in favour of rural area development, the revised budget estimates of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi have earmarked an unprecedented Rs.1 crore each for its 272 councillors apart from the Rs.25 lakh that has been allocated to each of the 41 members of the Rural Committee.

At a special meeting on Monday, Leader of the House Subhash Arya said the new provisions would ensure that work in rural areas does not suffer from lack of funds.

“Over Rs.25 crore has been sanctioned for rural roads, Rs.10 crore each for village abadi and urbanised villages development. Additionally, Rs.45 crore will be spent on developing unauthorised and un-regularised colonies, Rs.25 crore on regularised colonies ,” he added.

Mr. Arya also said that from now on issuance of birth and death certificates would be free and gymnasiums would be constructed in each ward .
