Bangalore: Tension and confusion prevails around a small picturesque island in the midst of the Cauvery river along the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border after a large group of Kannadigas attempted to forcibly enter the disputed island on Sunday and Monday. For the last few years, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have been having a border dispute with both the States claiming right of ownership over the island. Joint surveyKarnataka has also sought a joint survey of the area and has categorically stated that Tamil Nadu was attempting to usurp the tourism rich place. Sources in the State Government told The Hindu that irrespective of the presence of a contingent of police personnel of both States, the group was ferried to the island in a motorboat on Sunday. The island adjoins Chamarajanagar district of Karnataka on one side and Dharmapuri district on the Tamil Nadu side. While access from Tamil Nadu is easier, there are no roads from the Karnataka side. Police reinforcements have since been rushed to the place to prevent any violence.
