TIRUCHI: The Collector Ashish Vacchani on Monday sought voluntary cooperation of encroachers in clearing unauthorised structures along the East Boulevard Road. Stating that the official machinery is geared up to remove unauthorised structures, the Collector emphasised that removal of such structures by encroachers themselves would be ideal. To make the road suitable for free flow of traffic, a suitable place that has been identified for parking of lorries. The place which would be informed shortly would be provided with drinking water and drainage facilities through the Corporation. Dome cameras would be installed at vantage points along the road to rule out encroachments in future, said Mr. Vacchani, interacting with media persons. Polio campaignThe pulse polio immunisation campaign on Monday resulted in 95.16 per cent coverage. Of the 2.47 children identified for the immunisation, 2.39 lakh were administered pulse polio drops. The campaign has been extended by three more days for immunisation of the left out children on a door-to-door basis, he said. Relief to farmersOn the damage caused to paddy, sunflower, groundnut and other crops in the district due to the recent rains that affected 2,900 hectares, the Collector said that farmers were being provided with relief. The district administration has received the relief package of Rs.1.07 crore in two instalments of Rs.75 lakh and Rs.32 lakh. The relief amounts would be directly deposited into the accounts of the affected farmers at their respective Primary Agricultural Cooperative Banks, with a direction to the banks that the relief amount should not be adjusted against past loans. Paddy procurementA total of 148 metric tonnes of paddy has been procured through 25 direct purchase centres in the district. The number of such centres was being increased based on the need. The target is to have 40 direct purchase centres in the district, he said. Responding to a question on the demand felt by domestic consumers for LPG cylinders, Mr. Vacchani said the District Supply Officer is seized of the task of ensuring that the cylinders meant for domestic consumers is not diverted for commercial purposes.
