Two bank staff drown

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: Two young employees of ICICI Bank drowned in the Manchanabele reservoir in Ramanagara district on Sunday evening. The two were part of an 11-member group from Bangalore that had been there for weekend outing.

The police gave their names as Anthony John (22) of Chamarajpet and Sreenivasa (21) of Vijayanagar. The employees of the bank, who left from Bangalore on Sunday morning on six motorcycles, first visited the Savanadurga hillock in Magadi taluk. While returning to Bangalore, the group went to the Manchanabele reservoir around 4.30 p.m.

While seven of them got into a coracle to reach the other end of the reservoir, John, Sreenivasa, Shyam and Yosuf preferred to walk through the water. John and Sreenivasa drowned after their feet reportedly got stuck in the silt. Their friends tried in vain to rescue them, the police said.

Using coracles, the staff from the Tavarekere police station, along with the locals, searched for the two bodies and traced them on Monday morning.
