Association plea to State Government for free train passes

TIRUCHI: Tiruchi Drama Artistes Association has appealed to the State Government to allot residential quarters and special free train passes for the drama artistes.

The Association has thanked the Government for offering concession in railway tickets for the drama troupe while going for performances and requested to issue special free passes to boost the waning theatre arts. Drama artistes’ colonies must be created in every district on the lines of Samathuvapuram.

Stating its difficulties in getting the travel concessions from Literature, Music and Drama Association at Chennai, the Tiruchi Drama Artistes’ Association has urged the Government to disburse allowances to the artistes through the Department of Arts and Culture in district headquarters.

Welfare assistance

Placing the demands at a welfare assistance distribution function held here on Monday, the patron of the Association Alex expressed hopes that their requests would be met with. The treasurer of South Indian Film Artistes’ Association (SIFAA) K. N. Kalai said that welfare assistances would help the economically backward drama artistes. He assured that the assistances would be distributed annually from this year.

The General Secretary of Drama Artistes’ Association, Tiruchi, M. S. Mohamed Masthan, Manager of SIFAA Nadesan, joint secretary of SIFAA Selvaraj and organising committee member, SIFAA, Rajendran spoke. About a 100 drama artistes from Tiruchi, Karur, Thanjavur and Kumbakonam were given welfare assistances.
