PUDUKOTTAI: A Desiya Murpokku Dravidar Kazhagam councillor on Monday was arrested in a cheating case. M. Krishnamurthy (28), member of Alangudi town panchayat union, was taken into custody when he came out after attending the council meeting. With this, the number of persons arrested in connection with the case increased to four. Earlier, three constables were taken into custody. Police said a group of nine persons, including a money-lender Pannerselvam, his relative Krishnamurthy and three constables, allegedly duped Ramesh of Ponneri, near Chennai. Ramesh came to Alangudi in December last to take a loan from Pannerselvam. Ramesh then reportedly brought a certain sum of money as commission reportedly demanded by Krishnamurthy and others for forwarding a huge loan. In the meanwhile, Pannerselvam informed the constables of Ramesh’s possession of money. Constables N. Neelamegam (44) R. Kudiminathan (40) and M. Gopal (46) confronted Ramesh and accused him of possessing black money to seize it. Ramesh preferred a complaint with SP Kapil Kumar Saratkar, who, in turn, constituted a special team to nab the culprits.
