Workshops to discuss ways to develop schools planned

6.5 lakh SDMC, CAC members to be trained


Bangalore: The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan – Karnataka has planned to empower approximately 6.5 lakh School Development and Monitoring Committees (SDMC) and Civic Amenities Committee (CAC) members, which is a landmark in working towards providing quality school education. In this regard, SSA plans to conduct SDMC-CAC sharing workshops from February 15 to March 10 in different parts of the State.

According to a press release here on Monday, the workshops will cover approximately 6.5 lakh SDMC and CAC members of the 5,562 gram panchayats, covering 46,286 primary and higher primary schools from all the 33 education districts, 202 education blocks and 2,864 clusters.

The workshops will be carried on with the agencies of the department, such as Department of State Education Research and Training and District Institute of Education and Training through the Block Resource Coordinators. The gram panchayat president will be the CAC chairperson, gram panchayat secretary, other CAC members, nine parent council members, head master of the school who is also the member secretary, an anganwadi worker, two children representatives and a nominated member of every SDMC are expected to participate in the one-day workshops.

The SDMC-CAC sharing workshops will discuss how to develop the government schools, role that the community has in providing quality education and preparation of action plan.

The release said that educational institutions such as National Law School of India University, Kannada University, Azim Premji Foundation, Swamy Vivekananda Youth Movement and Prajayathna and several NGOs were helping the department with the task of involving the community in providing quality school education.

The planning and preparations for this programme has been going on for the past three months. More than 40 State resource personnel trained 429 master resource persons, who in turn are training 6,060 facilitators.
