Outsourcing arm inaugurated

Staff Reporter

MADURAI: Sundaram Business Services, the business process outsourcing arm of Sundaram Finance, opened its unit here on Monday.

This was its first office outside Chennai in the State. It has seven centres in Chennai besides one each at Mumbai and New Delhi, Managing Director of Sundaram Finance T.T. Srinivasaraghavan told journalists.

“Madurai is uniquely placed in many aspects as it is a magnet attracting people from the southern districts. A large reservoir of trained manpower is available here,” he said.

Starting off with 150, the staff strength would eventually reach 500 by March 2009.

R. Dinesh, Executive Director, T.V. Sundaram Iyengar and Sons, who inaugurated the BPO, said, “Around 15,000 jobs will be created in this field in Madurai and southern districts.”

Infrastructure

The connectivity to the city had improved by leaps and bounds.

Some years back, there were only weekly flights out of Madurai. At present, 11 flights operate to Chennai alone on a daily basis and two to Bangalore, said Mr. Dinesh.
