Collector warns contractors

VIRUDHUNAGAR: Collector V. Chandrasekaran has warned the contracts would be scrapped and fine imposed on contractors who fail to carry out rural development works.

He was reviewing the works taken up under various State Government and Central schemes like Indira Awas Yojna (IAY), Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalachi Thittam (AGAMT) and Golden Jubilee Gram Swarozgar Yojna here on Tuesday.

The Collector directed the Block Development Offcers and Panchayat Union Engineers to pay the contractors immediately after completion of the works. Stating that the National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme (NREGP) would be implemented in the district from April 1, he said the selection of works should be finalised at a special gram sabha meeting to be held on February 19.
