ANANTAPUR: The Field Assistants Union of NREGS has urged the government to hike their wages to Rs. 3,900 per month as per GO No. 2501, extend provident fund, employees’ state insurance scheme, pension and accident insurance, to ensure job security, to prevent political intervention in their functioning and stop indiscriminate removal from job. In a meeting of the union held here on Tuesday state secretary of the union Gopal alleged that the government was treating the field assistants of the NREGS almost as the bonded labourers. While the wage employment seekers were being ensured Rs. 100 per day the field assistants, who were supervising the works, were being paid a paltry Rs. 40 per day. Besides, the field assistants were not being paid their remuneration regularly every month. Lack of concern over the welfare of staff associated with the prestigious scheme would expose the government’s sincerity on the scheme. Political intervention in the implementation of the scheme was increasing by day and the field assistants were being made scapegoats for the mistakes resulting from the intervention. District secretary of CITU M. Imtiaz, district president and secretaries of Vyavasaya Karmika Sangham Gangadhar and Nallappa, and others said they would intensify agitation.
