Stress on micro-level planning
Staff Reporter
ARIYALUR: The approach to micro-level planning at the level of panchayats for the purpose of leveraging benefits of works undertaken by various departments formed the core of the discussion at the first review meeting of officials convened by the Collector, Xavier Chriso Nayagam, on Tuesday.
Development works at the villages must begin with need assessment through participatory rural appraisal, and have to be prioritised.
Each of the six to seven villages identified block-wise would be provided with Rs.20 lakhs for implementation of AGMT.
Before obtaining funds for implementing the developmental works, Block Development Officers would be required to obtain the ratification of the Grama Sabha.
The Collector advised the BDOs to entrust the task of choosing beneficiaries under the group housing scheme with panchayat presidents and oversee proper implementation.
Mr. Xavier said the BDOs would have to necessarily complete the works under group housing scheme within three months from the start of the next financial year.
Expressing displeasure at the absence of higher officials of some departments at the meeting, he reminded them that they would have to necessarily keep the district administration informed about their works.
The DRO, P. Shankar, the Project Officer of the DRDA, S. Natarajan, and the Project Officer of Mahalir Thittam, A. Ramasamy, attended the meet.
