PUDUCHERRY: Police arrested two persons on Tuesday on charges of stealing copper wire belonging to a private telecom operator last week. According to the police, the accused, Praveen of Moolakulam and Esther of J.J. Nagar, were arrested from a house at Mariamman Koil in Kadirgamam. The private operator had kept around 300 meters of wire at his residence for providing telecom connection in the town, the police said. The duo, posing as employees of the company, took the wire from the house. They melted part of it and sold it for around Rs. 20,000, the police said. The remaining part of the stolen material was kept at the residence of the accused, the police said. The entire material stolen by the accused was recovered, the police said. The two were remanded to judicial custody.
