ALAPPUZHA: The Ambalappuzha police have arrested one person, Vipin Das, in connection with the molestation of 16 students of Naluchira Government Upper Primary School here. According to the police, Das was an accomplice of prime accused in the case S. Biju, and had accompanied Biju when he first visited the Naluchira school with the offer of acting in his ‘documentary’ for students there. Das, a native of Cherai in Ernakulam and a resident of Mangalam in Thrikkunnappuzha here, was arrested from his residence in Mangalam on Tuesday. Police said he was produced before court and that he was remanded to judicial custody. Though the police is yet to ascertain the exact nature of the involvement of Das in the case, which is in connection with Biju allegedly molesting the students while ‘training’ them to act in his documentary, they believe that he was not at the house when the students were molested. However, Das could lead the police to Biju who was still at large, police sources said. The case had first come to light on February 7, when the students complained to their parents that Biju had sexually abused them for over a month while ‘preparing’ them to act in his ‘documentary’ at his rented house in Thottapally. With Biju absconding, the police had constituted three teams to hunt him down. The school’s headmaster, K. Sajeevan, who had given Biju the permission to ‘shoot’ portions of his ‘documentary’ in the school and allowed students to go with him to his house, was suspended pending enquiry on Monday.
